Vesper Lynd’s necklace gets the attention, but the earrings she wears with it are the quieter piece. The Sophie Harley Bond Leaf earrings are made in oxidised sterling silver with 18ct gold plated detail, a leaf motif and drops of red garnet and black spinel. They are the pair Eva Green wears in Casino Royale, and they are still sold by the designer.
In the film
Sophie Harley designed the Algerian Love Knot necklace for Casino Royale (2006), together with two pairs of earrings for Vesper. The Bond Leaf earrings are worn with the necklace in the casino scenes. They are the same design the designer sells today.
The details
Size. Each earring is 53mm long and 15mm wide, long enough to read as a drop and light enough to wear for an evening.
Materials. Sterling silver, oxidised so that the leaf has depth, with 18ct gold plated detail. The leaf carries small hearts, and below it hang briolette-cut stones: red garnet and black spinel.
Meaning. The maker presents the leaf as renewal and hope, and the garnets as love, passion and strength. We would treat that as the designer’s reading, not the film’s.
Wearing them now
A drop of this length suits an evening with the hair up and a neckline that leaves the ears and collarbone clear. We would wear them with black or deep red and nothing else dark at the neck; the earrings need space. For a gift, they pair naturally with the Algerian Love Knot necklace, which Sophie Harley sells separately.
