The Chopard Green Carpet Collection necklace that Paloma wears in No Time To Die is set with pear-shaped diamonds totalling 43 carats. It is the quietest sort of extravagance: a great deal of stone, worn with a blue satin dress that asks nothing of it and lets the diamonds do the work. It also comes from a house that has made a point of traceable gold and gemstones.
In the film
Ana de Armas’s Paloma, a CIA agent, wears the necklace in the Cuba sequence and again in a scene where Daniel Craig’s Bond appears in his tuxedo; in both she is in a blue dress. Chopard was an official partner of the film, and the necklace is one of several Green Carpet Collection pieces she wears, alongside a matching bracelet and earrings. See the film page for more of what appears on screen.
The details of the Chopard Green Carpet Collection necklace
Pear-shaped diamonds, 43 carats in all. Forty-three carats is a combined weight, so this is a necklace of several stones rather than a single large one. We have not found a published breakdown of the stones or the setting.
The Green Carpet Collection. This is Chopard’s line of high jewellery built around traceability. Its milestones include responsibly sourced emeralds in 2016, a limited-edition collection crafted in ethical gold in 2017, and the first responsibly sourced Paraiba tourmaline in 2018. Chopard also announced that by July 2018 it would use 100% responsibly sourced gold across all its jewellery and watches. We found no statement about the gold in this particular necklace, but that is the context it comes from.
A matched set. The necklace sits with a bracelet carrying 82 carats of pear-shaped and round-brilliant diamonds and earrings set with 14 carats of diamonds. As part of the partnership, Chopard also announced a Happy Hearts Golden Hearts collection of bracelets, earrings, pendants and sautoir necklaces with gold hearts and diamond options, all in ethical gold.
Wearing it now
We should be plain about this: a necklace of this kind is not something most people shop for. It is a high jewellery piece, and we have not found a Chopard product page or published price for it. If you are drawn to it, the first step is to enquire with Chopard about availability. Our button runs an eBay search for Chopard diamond necklaces, the nearest equivalent you can browse today; it will not turn up this exact piece.
In the spirit of it, the Happy Hearts Golden Hearts collection is the place to look for the same thinking in a different form. What translates in either case is the principle. Fine stones sit best against simple cloth: a plain satin or silk dress in a single deep colour, with no competing necklace or pattern. Blue works because it asks nothing of the diamonds. If you are buying for someone else, we would favour a piece with a story you can tell in a sentence, as this one has.
Our jewellery pages gather the rest of the films’ pieces, and our pages on Daniel Craig as Bond show the other side of the same restraint.
In the same spirit
The look is a deep blue dress and a single statement of stones. Two live pieces from our catalogue carry the idea: the Michael Lo Sordo Paloma maxi dress in navy, and the David Deyong DiamonDust drop hexagon earrings. They are alternatives in the spirit of the original, not the pieces worn by Paloma.
