Camille Montes, played by Olga Kurylenko, finishes her first look in Daniel Craig’s Bond outing Quantum of Solace with a single piece of jewellery: the Jasper Conran fish necklace, a large gold chain with a fish pendant. It is one graphic idea, and it asks for very little else around it. Because the piece was made to order, its use to you lies in what it teaches about wearing a single bold shape.
In the film
Camille wears the necklace in her first scenes in Quantum of Solace (2008), around her neck to complete a full Jasper Conran outfit. The chain is from the designer’s spring/summer 2008 collection and was made to order. That outfit, worn by Kurylenko as Camille, was later auctioned for £7,500 at Christie’s, in the online sale 50 Years of James Bond, held between 28 September and 8 October 2012.
The details
One motif. A fish is an unusual choice for a pendant, and a neat one: simple in outline and easy to read at a distance, with no monogram or crest to date it.
Scale. The chain and pendant are large. The piece is meant to be seen, which is why we think it wants plain clothes around it.
Made to order. It comes from the 2008 collection and was made to order. We have not found a published weight, length or exact metal specification, so we do not quote one.
Wearing it now
The lesson is more useful than the object. One substantial piece of gold, worn against a plain crew neck, an open-collared shirt or a fine knit, does more than a handful of smaller ones. We would keep everything else quiet: no watch with a busy dial, no second chain.
The piece was made to order for 2008 and is long out of production, so an original turns up second-hand, if at all; our button runs a search on eBay. We have found no published specifications, so check the metal and any hallmarks with the seller. Otherwise the route is a gold chain with a simple animal or marine pendant in the same spirit.
