Of the four Crockett & Jones styles Daniel Craig’s Bond wears in Skyfall, the Tetbury is the one that suits work rather than show. It is a plain-fronted chukka boot on a rubber sole: no brogueing, no toe cap, nothing to fuss over. The Crockett & Jones Tetbury is also, in our view, the most useful boot a man can take from that film into his own wardrobe.
In the film
Bond wears the Tetbury in the Turkey sequence, including the rooftop train chase, and again in Shanghai. Crockett & Jones supplied four styles for Skyfall; the others are the Alex, Highbury and Islay. The pair on screen is described as antique nubuck with Dainite rubber soles.
The details of the Crockett & Jones Tetbury
A plain front. The maker believes the chukka has both a sporting and a military heritage, and builds it from three pieces of outer material. With so few pieces the shape does the work: a clean, uninterrupted line from toe to ankle that sits neatly under a trouser leg.
Dainite rubber soles. Rubber rather than leather underfoot suits a boot meant to be worn outdoors. It is what separates the Tetbury from a dress shoe, and why it can cross a wet pavement without ceremony.
Last 348. Crockett & Jones builds each style on a named last, and the Tetbury sits on number 348. If you already own the maker’s shoes on that last, you will have a fair idea of the fit before you try a pair.
Made in Northampton. The maker says a pair of its men’s shoes takes up to eight weeks and more than 200 operations to make, in its own Northampton factory. It is not a quick object to produce.
Three leathers. At the time of writing, the maker’s US site lists the Tetbury in dark brown suede, dark brown wax calf and black wax calf. Suede is softer and more casual. Wax calf is smoother, and one stockist describes the black as made for enhanced water resistance.
Wearing it now
The Tetbury sits between a dress shoe and a walking boot, which suits most weekends better than either. In dark brown suede it works with navy or grey knitwear, flannel or cord trousers, chinos and dark denim, under a field jacket or a tweed coat. We think it looks better a little worn in than box-fresh.
Which to choose. The film pair is described as antique nubuck, a finish the maker’s US site does not currently list. For the nearest look we would choose the dark brown suede. The dark brown wax calf suits a man who wants a smoother finish in a similar colour, and we would pick the black wax calf only if the boots will spend more time on city pavements than country lanes.
Care. Brush suede after wearing and use a protector spray before the first outing in rain. Let wet boots dry away from direct heat, with shoe trees inside.

Questions
Are these the exact boots Bond wears in Skyfall?
They are the same model. The pair on screen is described as antique nubuck with Dainite rubber soles, while the leathers Crockett & Jones lists today are suede and wax calf, so the finish will differ.
Where does Bond wear the Tetbury in Skyfall?
In Turkey, including the rooftop train chase, and in the Shanghai scenes.
How much do the Crockett & Jones Tetbury boots cost?
RRP at the time of writing, October 2026, is US$890 on the maker’s US site, in each of its current leathers. Prices differ by region.
What is a chukka boot?
An ankle-height boot with two or three pairs of eyelets, built from three pieces of outer material. Crockett & Jones believes the style has both a sporting and a military heritage, and notes it is also known as a desert boot.
More for the same wardrobe is in our shoes, and the rest of the series is in every Bond film.
