In the film
Javier Bardem’s Silva wears the boots with a cream and brown three-piece suit by the London tailor Thom Sweeney, designed by Jany Temime. They were identified from the costume display at an exhibition of Skyfall and Spectre costumes in Utrecht in September 2015.
The details of the Marriott boot
The Marriott last. The boots are built on Jeffery West’s Marriott last, named after Steve Marriott of the 1960s band the Small Faces.
Leather and lining. The upper is brown leather, brogued, with a red lining and a full leather English insole.
A cricket front. The Chelsea boot has a cricket-front profile, the toe treatment that gives the family its name.
Wearing it now
These boots are loud, and they should be worn by a man who can carry that. Brown brogue Chelsea boots sit well with cream or brown tailoring, tweed and indigo denim, and the red lining only shows when the boot is crossed or the trouser is short. We would keep the rest of the outfit quiet, so that the boots are the one thing noticed.
The model today. Jeffery West lists the Dexter ‘Point’ Cricket Front Chelsea Boot, in dark brown, black and honey tan, at £335 to £375. It has cross toe punching and diamond brogueing, a red leather lining and Goodyear welted construction, and it is handmade in Spain. It is a different boot on a different last, and the Dexter runs generous, so the maker advises trying half a size down.
