A wholecut Oxford is the plainest kind of dress shoe: one piece of leather, no toe cap, almost nothing to look at but the line. Crockett & Jones made the James in that form to mark No Time To Die, and the Crockett & Jones James is the most restrained shoe in its Bond collection.
In the film
Crockett & Jones announced an official partnership with EON Productions, the makers of the Bond films, after supplying shoes for Skyfall and Spectre. It describes the James as a 007 limited edition created in celebration of No Time To Die. We have not found evidence that Daniel Craig’s Bond is seen wearing this shoe, so we present it as the film’s official tie-in, not a screen match.
The details
Wholecut construction. Crockett & Jones calls the James a wholecut Oxford. With no seam across the front, there is nothing to look at but the shape and the polish.
Box calf. The maker cuts the upper from fine black box calf and describes the shoe as made from the smallest skins.
Hand Grade sole. The shoe carries Crockett & Jones’s signature Hand Grade leather sole. The maker says each pair of its shoes takes up to eight weeks and more than 200 skilled operations, and that the shoes are made in Northampton.
Wearing it now
A black wholecut Oxford belongs with dark tailoring: a navy or charcoal suit, a dinner suit, the plain end of formal dress. It is too quiet for tweed and too formal for chinos. We would keep it for evenings and for occasions where you want the shoe to disappear under the trouser break.
Limited edition. The James is a limited run, so confirm stock with the maker before you plan around it. For a wider look at the shoes Bond is seen in, see our shoes and the No Time To Die page.

We cannot confirm it. Crockett & Jones made the James as an official limited edition for the film, but our research does not show it on screen.
What is a wholecut Oxford?
It is an Oxford shoe cut from a single piece of leather, without a seam across the front. The result is a smooth, uninterrupted line that reads as very formal.
How much does the James cost?
The maker’s US site lists it at US$1,495 at the time of writing. Earlier listings gave US$1,195 and GBP 850, so check the current price.
Is the James still available?
The maker’s US page listed it as in stock at the time of writing, but it is a limited edition, so availability can change.
