The world of James Bond, considered for a life well lived

Jaguar XF (No Time To Die)

The Jaguar XF is the saloon that chases Daniel Craig’s Bond through the streets of Matera in the pre-title sequence of No Time To Die. It is a rear- or all-wheel-drive four-door with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and a quietly handsome alternative to the German default.

Most chases are remembered for the car in front. In No Time To Die, the more interesting car may be the one giving chase. The Jaguar XF No Time To Die chase car is a four-door executive saloon, not a coupé or a sports car, which is exactly why it suits a life lived off screen. It is a car for a man who needs four doors and would rather not look like he does.

In the film

Two XF saloons pursue the Aston Martin DB5 of Daniel Craig’s Bond through the narrow streets of Matera, in southern Italy, in the pre-title sequence of No Time To Die (2021). They are driven by the villain’s henchmen, not by Bond. A stunt car from the production was later offered at Christie’s. You can read more about the film on our No Time To Die page.

The details of the Jaguar XF from No Time To Die

A sporting profile. Jaguar describes the XF’s profile as sporting, and the F-TYPE-inspired tail lights sharpen the rear into a distinct silhouette. The LED headlights throw a light closer to daylight, and the grille mesh carries a monogram pattern finished in gloss black foil.

Two engines, one idea. Both versions of the late car use a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The P250 makes 246hp and drives the rear wheels only. The P300 makes 296hp and comes with all-wheel drive. Jaguar quotes up to 5.8 seconds from 0 to 60mph and a top speed of up to 155mph for the range, which is quick without being showy.

A cabin built around the hand. The drive selector is covered in leather with cricket-ball stitching, shaped to sit in the palm. The R-Dynamic SE carries an 11.4-inch Pivi Pro touchscreen and a Meridian sound system, and the cabin lighting can be set from a range of colours and moods.

Room for a weekend. It seats five, and Car and Driver fitted five carry-on suitcases in the boot. Boot space is 11 cubic feet. That is a practical saloon, and it asks nothing of you in the way of an SUV.

Owning it now

The XF is the answer for the man who has decided against an SUV and does not want the obvious German saloon. Car and Driver praises its refined road manners and ride quality, which is what you want over long motorway miles. We would choose dark grey or deep blue paint and leave the loud options alone.

Which one to choose. We would take the P250 R-Dynamic SE on rear-wheel drive. Its 246hp is enough for the car’s character, and Car and Driver reached the same conclusion about value. The P300 and its all-wheel drive make sense only if you live somewhere that needs them.

New or Approved Used. Our sources record the second-generation XF as built from 2015 to 2024. Jaguar’s own site still lists new pricing alongside an Approved Used search, so check current availability. Choose a later car with the 11.4-inch screen if you can, and buy on service history.

The Bond context. A Jaguar here is the pursuer, not the hero’s car, which is part of its appeal. For more on the film and its world, see the films.
