The villain’s car is not usually the one a man wants to own. This one might be. The Range Rover Sport SVR from Spectre is part of the convoy that Mr Hinx leads through Austria. It is, in our view, the sensible man’s supercar: four doors, four-wheel drive and 575hp, in a shape that draws less attention than the numbers suggest.
In the film
A 2015 Range Rover Sport SVR (L494) appears in Spectre (2015) in the convoy of Spectre mercenaries in the Austria sequence, with Dave Bautista’s Mr Hinx leading the group. Land Rover says the Sport “starred in major action sequences” in the film. The model returns in No Time To Die (2021), where it is wrecked in a chase in Scotland. Land Rover notes that cars shown on screen are modified for safety, so what you can buy is the same model rather than the same car. See the vehicles in the film on our Spectre page.
The details of the Range Rover Sport SVR from Spectre
A supercharged 5.0-litre V8. It makes 575hp and 700Nm of torque. The quoted figures are 0-60mph in 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 176mph, which is quick for a car of this size and height.
An eight-speed automatic. Drive goes to all four wheels, so the power stays usable when the road is wet or loose. That is the case for an SVR over a sports saloon.
A chassis tuned for the job. Land Rover says the dynamic response system is uniquely tuned, and that the SVR corners flatter and faster than any other Land Rover. We read that as a promise that the weight is controlled rather than hidden.
An exhaust you can switch. The two-stage active sports exhaust has electronically controlled valves and runs through four tailpipes. It is switchable, so it can stay subdued on the commute and sound fuller when you want it to.
Sixteen-way seats. The sports seats are electrically adjustable with memory, trimmed in Oxford leather, with SVR embossing on the upper bolster. They come in four colourways.
A deliberate look. Land Rover points to the darkened headlights, the bright quad tailpipes and the rear spoiler. In a dark colour, we think those details read as quiet rather than loud.
Owning it now
This is a car for a man who needs space, four doors and a heavy-weather vehicle, and who also likes to drive. It suits the long journey to the country as well as the school run: a weekend in the Alps, a drive to a shoot, a motorway at night. It does not suit a man who wants to go unnoticed in a city.
Which one to choose. We would choose a dark, quiet colour. Santorini Black Metallic and Eiger Grey Metallic both appear on 2022 cars, and both suit the shape. Land Rover’s top-specification 2022 edition adds a gloss black roof, a carbon bonnet and 22-inch gloss black wheels, in Maya Blue, Marl Grey or satin Ligurian Black. It is the more conspicuous car and starts at a much higher price. We would take the standard car.
Running costs. US listings show about 17mpg combined, so fuel is part of the bargain. Ask for a full service history, and look closely at the tyres and brakes on a car this heavy and fast.
New or used? The SVR was built by Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations. In September 2026, used 2022 cars were listed in the US at roughly US$48,000 to US$71,000, depending on mileage and condition.
