The world of James Bond, considered for a life well lived

Barbour x Land Rover Briefcase Bag, Olive (Spectre)

A smart olive briefcase from Barbour’s collaboration with Land Rover, carried by Q in Spectre to hold his laptop in Austria. Waxed leather trims and embossed branding keep it quiet. It is out of production and found second-hand, so we link to an eBay search for reference UBA0278OL35.

In Austria, Q carries his laptop in a briefcase that looks as if it belongs on the back seat of a Land Rover rather than in an airport lounge. The Barbour Land Rover briefcase is an olive, business-style bag with waxed leather trims, made in the countryside idiom and put to work for a very modern job. It is, in our view, one of the more sensible things anyone carries in the world of Daniel Craig’s Bond.

In the film

Ben Whishaw’s Q carries the bag in the Austria sequence of Spectre (2015), where it holds his laptop. The model is the olive Barbour x Land Rover Briefcase, reference UBA0278OL35.

The details of the Barbour Land Rover briefcase

Olive, not black. Most briefcases announce an office. This one reads as outdoor equipment, which is why it moves so easily between a meeting and a muddy car park.

Leather trims. The trims are waxed leather and the branding is embossed into the leather, so the bag marks itself quietly rather than shouting its maker.

A collaboration with a purpose. In our reading, Barbour and Land Rover share an outlook: dependable British gear for weather, not for show. This bag is that outlook adapted for a laptop.

Using it now

This is the bag for a man who carries a laptop and a notebook and would rather not look as though he does. It sits best with soft, outdoor-leaning clothes: a knit or a corduroy jacket, a shirt without a tie, dark denim or moleskin trousers. We would not carry it with a sharp city suit; the olive and the leather trim belong with softer cloth.

Finding one. The bag dates from Barbour’s 2014/2015 season and is out of production, so it is found second-hand. Our button runs an eBay search. Ask for the reference (UBA0278OL35), check the leather trims and the embossed branding carefully, and buy only from a seller who gives clear photographs and accepts returns.

In the spirit of it. If you want the look rather than the exact bag, Barbour’s current Wax Leather Briefcase is a different bag, not the one from the film, but it shares the idea: an olive waxed-cotton laptop case with leather handles and antique brass hardware. Barbour’s US site lists it at an RRP of US$250 at the time of writing, October 2026.
