Among the equipment M hands over at the Hildebrand safe house in Spectre, the Gerber 06 Automatic knife is the smallest item and a practical one. It is a push-button folding knife, the sort of object a quiet man carries every day. Daniel Craig’s Bond later uses it, in the MI6 building, to free Madeleine Swann. It is a tool first.
In the film
M takes several weapons out of a brown waxed-cotton bag at the safe house and gives Bond the knife. Later, in the MI6 building, Bond uses it to cut the cords holding Swann. The model number the catalogue identifies is 30-000377, the black drop-point blade with a serrated rear half.
The details of the Gerber 06 Automatic
Blade steel. The blade is CPM S30V, a stainless steel that Gerber’s retailers describe as holding an edge well. On this version it is black-finished with a serrated rear half, which is why the catalogue calls it a combination edge.
Handle. It is milled black aluminium, hard-anodised 6061-T6 according to a retailer, with a stainless steel pommel that has a strike point and a lanyard hole.
Automatic action. A button release opens the blade, with a slide safety and a button lock. The release is oversized so it can be worked with gloves on. The pocket clip is reversible, tip-up.
Dimensions. Retailers list 8.5in overall and 6.3oz. They disagree on blade length, giving it as both 3.6in and 3.8in, so confirm that before you order.
Owning it now
Automatic knives are regulated differently from ordinary folders in many places, and in some they cannot be owned or carried at all. Check local law before you buy, and do not assume that something sold in one country can be posted to another. US retailers list a manufacturer’s suggested price of US$229.99 (at the time of writing, October 2026), often discounted.
It is a simple object to live with: a reliable everyday tool with a Bond connection. We did not find Gerber’s own page for this model, so the button goes to BladeHQ, a specialist knife retailer that listed it when we checked. For more from the films, browse the weapons collection.
