Paloma’s clutch does a great deal of work for so small a bag. In No Time To Die, Ana de Armas’s CIA agent carries a blue liquid velvet evening bag that sits quietly alongside her blue gown and never competes with it. It is a Jimmy Choo Vivien clutch, and in our view a lesson in how little an evening bag needs to do.
In the film
Paloma carries the bag through her Cuban scenes. It is first seen on the bar of the café where she meets Daniel Craig’s Bond, she grabs it as they leave, and it stays with her through the SPECTRE party. It completes her only outfit in the film: a blue Michael Lo Sordo gown, silver Aquazzura sandals and Chopard jewellery. An original screen-used bag was later put up for sale at Christie’s in its 60 Years of Bond auction, in September 2022.
The details of the Jimmy Choo Vivien clutch
A soft fan shape. The Vivien is cut as a gathered, fan-like pouch rather than a hard box. Jimmy Choo describes the pleats on the front and back as folded by hand and fixed with a small metal ring, which gives the bag movement.
Liquid velvet. The film bag is blue liquid velvet, a softer and quieter material than the satin in which the Vivien is best known. Paloma’s gown is also blue, so the two read as one outfit.
Crystal detail. The standard Vivien is closed with a crystal-embellished sphere and has a metal chain at the base. Christie’s describes the film bag as having ‘deco’ crystal detail. We have not confirmed exactly how that differs from the standard sphere, so check before buying anything sold as an exact match.
Made in Italy. Jimmy Choo makes the Vivien in Italy. It has appeared in satin, velvet and glitter finishes and in several colours. The Duchess of Cambridge carried a blue satin one on arrival in Berlin on 19 July 2017.
Carrying it now
This is a bag for the evening, and we would keep it for that. Midnight blue, black and charcoal suit it best. It is quiet enough to sit beside a dinner suit and a silver or pale-gold accent without anything fighting for attention. Velvet also makes it a better autumn and winter bag than the satin versions, in our view.
Which version? If you want the film look, choose blue velvet, or the nearest blue you can find, with crystal detail. If you cannot find the exact bag, the standard Vivien in blue satin is a less costly route to the same silhouette, though it is not the same bag. We would not call any substitute the screen bag.
Buying it. We have not confirmed a current listing for the blue liquid velvet colourway, and the film bag carried added crystal detail, so it is a modified Vivien rather than a standard retail one. Our button runs an eBay search for the Jimmy Choo Vivien clutch, where pre-owned bags in different finishes appear. Check the material, colour and closure against the film before you pay. We have not quoted a price.

Questions
Is this the exact bag Paloma carries in No Time To Die?
It is the same model. The film bag is a Jimmy Choo Vivien in blue liquid velvet with deco crystal detail. A standard retail Vivien will not match it in every detail.
Who carries the Jimmy Choo Vivien in the film?
Ana de Armas’s Paloma, the CIA agent who joins Bond in Cuba. She carries it with her blue gown from the café scene through the SPECTRE party.
Can you still buy the Jimmy Choo Vivien clutch?
The Vivien has been sold in several finishes, but we have not confirmed that the blue liquid velvet version is on sale new. The practical route is a pre-owned one, so our button searches eBay. Compare any listing with the film bag before you buy.
Has anyone else carried the Vivien?
Yes. The Duchess of Cambridge carried a blue satin Vivien during her 2017 visit to Berlin.
For a gown to carry it with, see the Michael Lo Sordo Paloma maxi dress, which is a navy version of the style rather than the film’s blue. More from the film is on our No Time To Die page, and more bags are in Bags & Luggage. See also Craig’s Bond.
