Most of what Daniel Craig’s Bond wears with black tie is seen. The braces are not, until the jacket comes off. Albert Thurston white moiré braces are his quiet constant in evening dress, and in our view they are the most useful small thing a man can add to a dinner suit.

In the film

Bond wears them with his Tom Ford tuxedo in Spectre (2015). It is the same model he wore in Casino Royale (2006), under his Brioni suit at the high stakes poker game, and in Skyfall (2012), on each occasion with formal dress. The clips differ from film to film: gilt in Casino Royale, nickel in Skyfall.

The details

White moiré silk. Moiré is a watered, rippled finish, and on white it gives a soft sheen that reads as texture, never as shine. It is formal without being showy, which suits the purpose.

White leather joints. The leather where the straps meet is vegetable-tanned goatskin, also white. A pair with black or brown leather would look like an ordinary pair of braces. This one stays white at every join.

Braid ends. The ends are braided rather than leather-tipped, a small detail that suits the formality of the rest.

Nickel fittings. Bond’s pair has nickel clips in Skyfall, and several retailers sell the white moiré with a silver finish. Against white they look cool and clean. Gilt fittings look warmer and more theatrical.

Made since 1820. Albert Thurston has been making braces for two centuries, and its name appears in plenty of films besides Bond’s. The braces come in a traditional gift box, which makes them an easy present.

Wearing white moiré braces now

Wear them with black tie. Braces are a private detail: visible when you take the jacket off at a dinner, a wedding or a late table, and otherwise known only to you. A white shirt and black trousers let them show to best effect.

No belt. Braces and a belt together are a mistake. Trousers made for braces have a clean waistband and sit slightly higher on the waist, which is the right place for evening trousers anyway. If yours have belt loops and no side adjusters, they will still work. They simply won’t hang as well.

Which colour? We would choose white, as in the film. Albert Thurston also makes the same moiré in black at the same price, and that is the quieter option for a man who would rather not be noticed. White is for someone who enjoys a small, deliberate contrast.

Beyond black tie. We would keep them for evening. Worn with a business suit, white braces start to look like costume, and the point of this piece is that it never does.

Questions

Does Bond wear Albert Thurston braces in Spectre?

Yes. Bond wears white Albert Thurston moiré braces with his Tom Ford tuxedo in Spectre. They are the same model he wears in Casino Royale and Skyfall.

How much do Albert Thurston white moiré braces cost?

Albert Thurston lists its white moiré braces at US$185.95 at the time of writing, October 2026. Retailers may price them differently.

Are the clips the same in every Bond film?

No. The braces have gilt clips in Casino Royale and nickel clips in Skyfall. We have not been able to confirm the clips for Spectre, so we would choose the nickel version for its cooler, cleaner look.

Should you wear a belt with braces?

No. Wear one or the other. Trousers cut for braces sit better without the extra weight at the waist, and the two together look uncertain.
