The Penfold Heart golf ball is the small object at the centre of the best-known round of golf in cinema. Sean Connery’s Bond plays the match against Auric Goldfinger at Stoke Park, and the ball he identifies as a Penfold Hearts is still made today.

In the film and the book

A Penfold Hearts ball is mentioned in Ian Fleming’s Goldfinger novel, and the film made it famous: ‘Here’s my Penfold Hearts’ is part of Bond’s winning round. MyGolfSpy reported that the scene sent orders for Penfold balls through the roof, and Penfold’s own page credits the film for putting the Hearts in the spotlight.

Owning it now

Penfold says it was established in 1927 and describes the current Heart as a three-piece urethane ball with 350 dimples and a compression of 85, with a red heart on the cover. The 2020 relaunch ball was a three-piece ionomer distance ball. The maker’s US price is US$40 (October 2026); the page showed it sold out at the time of writing, so check stock, or find an older box second-hand.
