In Jamaica, Daniel Craig’s Bond has set the tradecraft aside and gone fishing, and the kit that goes with it is the real thing rather than costume. The Riffe Descender long blade plastic fins are made for spearfishing and freediving: long, simple, entirely without ornament. They are a quiet piece of kit and, in our view, a sensible first pair for anyone who means to spend more time under the water.

In the film

Bond uses them in Jamaica in No Time To Die (2021). After a spearfishing trip, he throws the fins on the deck as he disembarks the Spirit Yacht. The moment is brief, but the model is clear: it is the Descender Long Blade Plastic Fin that Riffe sells today. You can read more about Craig’s Bond and the Jamaica scenes in the film guide.

The details of the Riffe Descender long blade plastic fins

A long polypropylene blade. Each blade is 77.5cm from end to end and 21.7cm across at its widest point. A blade this long stores energy as it flexes and returns it, so the kick can be slow and unhurried. Riffe says it delivers strong thrust for little effort, and a relaxed kick is also a quieter one, which matters when you are trying not to alarm the fish.

The Veloc foot pocket. The pocket is made from flexible thermoplastic rubber and set at 20 degrees to the blade, an angle Riffe says maximises power transfer from the leg. It is shaped to be streamlined and light rather than bulky, and Riffe describes the fit as comfortable for all-day wear.

Built for daily use. Riffe designed the Descender for regular diving in rough conditions, not for a single holiday. Austin’s Diving places it with entry-level and intermediate spearfishers, which is how we would read it too: honest equipment rather than the carbon blades of a competition diver.

A blade you can replace. Riffe sells a single blade on its own, so a damaged one need not mean buying a new pair.

Six sizes. The foot pockets run from 36/37 to 46/47, which Riffe lists against shoe sizes 2-3 to 12-13.

Using it now

These are not an accessory to be worn on dry land, and we would not dress them up as one. Their place is on a boat deck, a quiet cove or a clear lake, with plain swim shorts and a good mask. What they give you is a reason to be in the water, and a more efficient way to be there.

Choosing a size. Start from your usual shoe size, then check the conversions on Riffe’s product page before ordering. A foot pocket should be snug without pinching, since a loose one wastes the push of the kick and rubs.

Luggage. At 77.5cm the blades are long. They will not fit a small cabin bag, so plan the packing before a trip rather than after it.

Care. Rinse them in fresh water after every dive, and let them dry in the shade rather than in direct sun or a hot car.

Who they suit. If you are new to freediving or spearfishing and want one pair that will see you through the first seasons, they are the right place to start. If you already dive deep and often, you may want something stiffer and more specialised.

No. He is not seen diving in the film. The fins appear when he throws them on the deck as he leaves the yacht.

The RRP at the time of writing, October 2026, is US$165 for a pair and US$20 for a single replacement blade.
