Some objects in a Bond film are there to impress. This one is simply there to be drunk. In No Time To Die, Daniel Craig’s Bond drinks Blackwell Black & Gold rum at his Jamaican house while talking to Nomi, the bottle standing on the table beside him. It is a modest, unshowy bottle with a real connection to the series: its founder, Chris Blackwell, was a location scout on Dr. No in 1962 and lunched with Ian Fleming as a child. The rum is a quiet way to bring a little of that world home from the film.
Drinking Blackwell Black & Gold rum now
This is a dark, molasses-based Jamaican rum, a blend of pot and column still spirit. Retailer tasting notes point to vanilla, marshmallow and spice. We would pour it over a single large cube and leave it there, or lengthen it with ginger beer and lime for a long drink. It does not need ceremony.
It belongs on a sideboard rather than a back shelf. More bottles worth owning are in our food and drink section.
