The world of James Bond, considered for a life well lived

Ferrari F355, Bright Yellow (Die Another Day)

A bright yellow Ferrari F355 appears in Die Another Day among the cars of Colonel Moon and Gustav Graves, and ends the film in a farmer’s field. Ferrari built the F355 from 1994 to 1999 with a 3.5-litre V8, and it is found second-hand today.

The Ferrari F355 is not Bond’s car in Die Another Day, and the film does not treat it as one. It appears in the villain’s collection, in a yellow that no one would call restrained, and it ends the film as cargo. That makes it a good car to write about honestly: a Ferrari F355 that Bond’s world borrowed, which is a fine thing to own if you choose the colour yourself.

In the film

A bright yellow F355 is seen in the Korea opening where the diamond exchange takes place, and again in the final scene, when it and a red Lamborghini Diablo are dropped from a crashing airplane into a farmer’s field. The James Bond Wiki lists a yellow F355 Berlinetta as one of Colonel Moon’s, later Gustav Graves’, personal cars. We have not been able to confirm which F355 body style the film used beyond that. See our Die Another Day page for the rest.

The details

The F355 was unveiled at the 1994 Geneva Motor Show and built from May 1994 to 1999. Pininfarina designed it, and it replaced the 348 as a heavily revised car. Ferrari says its five-valve-per-cylinder V8 produced 109 horsepower per litre, and the Cars and Bids listing gives the output as 375 horsepower from 3.5 litres. It came as the Berlinetta coupe, the GTS with a removable hard top that stows behind the seats, and the Spider.

Ferrari notes an aluminium and steel body on the Berlinetta, and electronically controlled suspension on the chassis. Manual and F1-paddle versions were both sold, which matters when you buy.

Owning it now

The F355 is out of production and found second-hand. One owner on Reddit describes it as becoming a favourite, with service costs that are immense and reliability that is not perfect. We would take that as a plain warning, not a reason to avoid one: buy on history, have a Ferrari specialist inspect it, and choose the manual if you want the car as the 1990s intended.

The yellow paint is the one from the film. In our view it suits the car better than a more cautious colour would, though it will ask more of the owner than a silver or dark blue example.

Questions

What Ferrari is in Die Another Day?

A bright yellow F355, seen in the Korea diamond exchange and in the final scene, when it is dropped from a crashing plane into a field.

Is the F355 still made?

No. Ferrari built it from 1994 to 1999, and the 360 replaced it.

Which F355 is the best to buy?

That depends on what you want. The Berlinetta is the coupe, the GTS has a removable top, and both came with a manual or an F1 gearbox. We would choose a manual coupe on service history.

Where can I find one?

Second-hand. We link to an eBay search, but classic car auction sites such as Cars and Bids list them too.
