A slot-car set is an honest way to bring a film into the house, and the Micro Scalextric Skyfall set (G1083) is a tidy one. It holds two 1:64 scale cars and 370cm of track, laid out on a table or floor of 120cm by 68cm. It was released to mark the film, and it belongs with the children’s toys that adults buy for themselves.
The set pairs the silver Aston Martin DB5 as seen in Skyfall with the black Aston Martin DBS from Daniel Craig’s earlier outing, Quantum of Solace. The DB5 is the car in the film; the set itself is merchandise, and we say so.
Using it now
Scalextric describes Micro Scalextric as the younger slot racer’s starting point, and it is also a sensible choice for a desk or a rainy afternoon: the footprint is small, the power is mains and the track can be rebuilt in five different layouts. There are no wireless controllers, so the cars run from wired hand throttles. We would buy it for a child or for a collector’s shelf, and treat it as a game, not an investment. If you buy second-hand, check that both cars and every track piece are present.
