The Riva Monte Carlo 30 Offshorer is the fast open boat Pierce Brosnan’s Bond takes out to the Manticore yacht in GoldenEye, and it remains one of the more affordable ways into classic Mediterranean powerboating. About 30 feet long, with a deep-V hull and twin petrol engines, it is out of production, so a Monte Carlo 30 is a used-boat purchase.
In the film
Bond uses the Riva Monte Carlo 30 Offshorer to get to the Manticore yacht, and later speeds towards the La Fayette after discovering Farrel’s body. The catalogue rates the match as high-confidence for the model, and the film is regularly cited by sellers of the boat.
The details of the Monte Carlo 30
Where it came from. Carlo Riva, founder of the Riva shipyard, is credited with the concept of the Monte Carlo Offshorer in the 1970s. After selling Riva he brought back from the United States the idea of a deep-V hull with steps, which gives lift and a lighter feel on the water. The model was designed and built from 1972, and 343 Monte Carlo 30s were built in total, according to the company now reviving the name.
Size and power. One 1989 listing gives the length as 8.90m (29.2ft) and the width as 2.45m. Examples are described with twin Crusader petrol V8 engines, and a 1974 boat on offer from a broker has 2 x 280hp. An Italian boating site describes the design as an Italian fast commuter capable of more than 50 knots, intended for day cruising.
The 32. The Monte Carlo 32 was the last revision of the 30, according to a yacht forum, and the Offshorer line ran from the 1970s to 2002.
Owning it now
At the time of writing, October 2026, listings we read show a 1989 Monte Carlo 30 at EUR50,000 on boats.com and at EUR89,000 (VAT included) with an Italian broker, and a 1974 boat at EUR50,000 with a Riva specialist. The difference is condition and engine hours, so inspect first.
What to check. A marine surveyor should look at the hull, the stringers and the engine mounts, and have the Crusader engines tested. Petrol V8s in a marine setting need careful maintenance, and parts are specialist.
A new one. A company is reviving the model as the MC30; it describes the boat as designed and built in 1972 and reborn. It is a separate company and a separate product, and we have not seen a price.
