The world of James Bond, considered for a life well lived

Ski-Doo MX Z-REV 800 Snowmobile (Die Another Day)

The Bombardier Ski-Doo MX Z-REV that appears in the Icelandic ice scenes of Die Another Day, where Pierce Brosnan’s Bond hijacks one. The 800 is long gone from the range, but Ski-Doo still builds the MXZ it grew into, so you can ride the idea new.

The Ski-Doo MX Z-REV 800 is the snowmobile of Die Another Day. It turns up in the film’s icy Icelandic scenes, and a Bond in Motion exhibit caption describes Pierce Brosnan’s Bond hijacking a Ski-Doo and making light work of the ice. If you want a Ski-Doo MXZ with that history behind it, this is the sled.

In the film

The Bombardier MX Z-REV 800 appears in the wintery action in Iceland, and a yellow-and-black sled was later displayed next to the Aston Martin Vanquish. Bombardier also made a 2003 MXZ-REV James Bond Edition, so the link between sled and film was a commercial one as well as a screen one.

The details

The REV chassis. The MX Z-REV was a trail sled built on Ski-Doo’s REV platform, and some owners still rate its geometry on groomed trails. As with any twenty-year-old sled, a pre-purchase inspection matters.

The successor. Ski-Doo’s trail sled today is the MXZ. The 2027 range starts at US$10,199 MSRP on the entry package, with E-TEC engines.

Owning it now

The 2003 sled is out of production and found second-hand through dealers and private sellers. If it is the screen link you want, look for a clean 2003 REV MXZ, and for the Bond Edition if one comes up. If you simply want to ride, a current MXZ from Ski-Doo’s own dealers is the easier route.

This is a machine for a winter place with a trailer and a plan, not a quick collectible. Our view: buy the sled you will actually ride, and enjoy the connection to the film as a bonus.
