The grooming set in Skyfall is one of the film’s small domestic pleasures, and the box that holds a set like it is a handsome object in its own right. Taylor of Old Bond Street makes a leather grooming box in black mock-croc with a beige suede interior, handmade in England, in the style of the one associated with the film. It measures 21.5cm by 13cm by 8cm.
We should be precise about the film. Our sources say a black version of this box is the one used in the grooming set prop, which was displayed after filming, but that the box itself is not seen on screen in Skyfall. The shaving bowl and brush are what Daniel Craig’s Bond is shown using.
Owning it now
Taylor sells the box in two ways. The filled version, in black or brown mock-croc or smooth tan leather, comes with a Victorian-style Mach3 razor, an imitation ivory comb, a pure badger travel shaving brush, sandalwood aftershave lotion (30ml), pre-shave gel (30ml), a styptic pencil and a tube of sandalwood shave cream (50ml). The empty black box is a separate listing and is currently sold out; the maker says boxes are often made to order and take four to six weeks.
We would buy the filled set as a present, then replace the contents with your own razor and cream once they run low. The box is the part that lasts, and it is better used on a dressing table or in a suitcase than kept for show.
