Madeleine Swann’s bag is easy to miss, which is rather its charm. In Matera, in No Time To Die, she carries a small white leather bucket bag by its handle, the long strap taken off, and it stays with her through a romantic walk and a car chase alike. It is the Tod’s Double T Bucket Bag Mini, from the house’s 2019 collection, and it shows how little a good bag needs to do.
In the film
Léa Seydoux’s Madeleine carries the bag in No Time To Die, in both of her Matera outfits: with the red Rouje Gabin flower dress on the walk through the town with Daniel Craig’s Bond, and with the white dress during the Aston Martin DB5 chase. The details of the Tod’s Double T Bucket Bag Mini
White calf leather. The body is cut from 100% calf leather, finished in white with silver-tone hardware. It is a clean, bright colour with no all-over pattern, so the shape does the talking.
A brown handle. The single flat top handle is brown leather and removable. Against the white body it gives the bag a defined line, and it is the way Swann carries it.
The Double T. Tod’s emblem sits at the front. A single mark identifies the maker, which lets the bag read as quiet rather than branded.
Scale. It measures about 22 x 20 x 14cm and weighs around 448g. That is room for the essentials and little more, which keeps the bag honest. A long white strap of roughly 110cm is removable and adjustable, but Swann leaves it off.
Inside. A magnetic button closes the bag. The interior is lined in fabric, with an internal zipped pocket for the things you do not want to hunt for. It is made in Italy.
Carrying it now
White leather suits warm weather and plain clothes: linen, cotton poplin, navy, sand, a good white shirt. It is at its best when the rest of the outfit is simple, and it can carry colour if you want it to, as it does against Swann’s red dress. We would use the handle in town and keep the strap for travel, when both hands need to be free.
Keeping it white. Pale leather marks easily. Keep it away from new dark denim and dye-heavy fabrics, store it in its dustbag, and follow Tod’s own care guidance.
Finding one. Tod’s lists the bag as sold out, and the retailers we checked have sold through too, so it is a second-hand search; our button runs an eBay search for it. Match the reference XBWDOTK0100KJ13Q08, the brown removable handle and the Double T emblem. The same house makes similar bucket bags in larger sizes, with noticeably different details.
