The world of James Bond, considered for a life well lived

Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE (No Time To Die)

Triumph’s Scrambler 1200 XE is the road bike behind the machine Primo rides and Daniel Craig’s Bond takes over in the Matera pre-title sequence of No Time To Die. A 1200cc twin on long-travel suspension and a 21-inch front wheel, it is built to leave the tarmac.

The handover is the best part of the Matera chase. Primo, Safin’s assassin, sets off after Daniel Craig’s Bond on a black Triumph; by the end of the sequence the bike is Bond’s. It is the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE, and in our view it is the machine from the film that a private garage can most sensibly hold: a bike you can still order new, and one built to be ridden hard rather than admired.

In the film

Primo (Dali Benssalah) rides a black Scrambler 1200 XE in pursuit of Bond through Matera in the pre-title sequence of No Time To Die. Bond takes the bike from him and rides it through narrow streets and over stone steps, then makes a huge jump that ends beside a crowd. The bikes on screen were modified action machines, so the XE on sale is the model behind them rather than a replica. Triumph was the film’s only motorcycle partner.

The details of the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE

A twin tuned for pull. The 1200cc liquid-cooled parallel twin makes 89hp at 7,300rpm and 110Nm at 4,500rpm. Triumph gave it a dedicated Scrambler tune for instant response, which is what you want on loose ground and in a narrow street. A six-speed gearbox and a torque-assist clutch keep the lever light.

Suspension that does the work. Fully adjustable 47mm Showa upside-down forks sit at the front, with Öhlins twin rear shocks and piggyback reservoirs behind. Together they give 250mm of wheel travel, which is why the bike takes a kerb or a rutted track in its stride.

Wheels and brakes. The front wheel is 21 inches, the rear 17, both spoked and tubeless with stainless-steel spokes. Brembo Stylema M4.30 radial calipers bite on twin 320mm front discs, a serious set-up for such a traditional silhouette.

Electronics you can switch off. There are six riding modes, including Off-Road Pro, which is exclusive to the XE and turns off cornering ABS and traction control entirely. Cruise control and a full-colour TFT display make it as easy on a long road as on a trail.

The look. High-level brushed stainless silencers, a brushed aluminium Monza filler cap, a number board and a black bench seat echo the old factory scramblers. The handlebars are 2.55 inches wider than on the Scrambler 1200 X, which suits the upright, standing-capable riding position.

Riding it now

This is a bike for a rider who wants one machine for the road and the occasional green lane: not a track tool and not a motorway tourer. It is tall and long-legged, and it asks for a confident rider. It repays one who enjoys the way a big twin pulls from low revs.

Which colour. Triumph sells it in two schemes: Matte Khaki Green with Matte Crystal White, and Sapphire Black. We would choose the black. It is the closest to Primo’s bike, and the more discreet of the two.

What to wear. Keep it plain: a leather jacket, dark denim or canvas trousers and proper boots suit the bike. Choose riding gear with armour for anything beyond a short trip. Nothing needs to match the film.

Before you buy. Sit on one first. The seat is high and the suspension long, so reach and height matter more here than on most bikes. Triumph takes test ride requests online and through its dealers, and sells over 70 genuine accessories, covered by the same warranty when fitted at purchase.

Questions

Is this the exact bike Bond rides in No Time To Die?

Not exactly. The bikes on screen were modified action machines based on the Scrambler 1200 XE. The production XE is the model behind them, and Sapphire Black is the colour closest to Primo’s black bike.

How much does the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE cost?

RRP at the time of writing, October 2026, is from US$16,595 on Triumph’s US site. Dealer fees, taxes and options will change the final figure.

Is there a Triumph Scrambler 1200 Bond Edition?

Yes. Triumph made a limited-edition Scrambler 1200 inspired by the bike in the film. Its website lists it as sold out, so the standard XE is the version to buy now.

Is the Scrambler 1200 XE good off-road?

Yes, it is designed for it. It has 250mm of suspension travel, a 21-inch front wheel and an Off-Road Pro mode that switches off cornering ABS and traction control. It is a big bike, so it suits an experienced rider.

More machines from the film are in our vehicles, and everyone who has played the role is in The Bonds, including Daniel Craig.
