The Bond of Carte Blanche carries something thin. The Walther PPS is a slim polymer pistol designed to disappear under a jacket, and the novel’s Bond uses one. The Walther PPS is a quiet entry in the arsenal, and still a current design.
In the books
In the continuation novel Carte Blanche, James Bond uses a Walther PPS. It is a supporting detail in the book rather than the centre of a scene, and we treat the match as the model line, not a specific variant. Browse the films and the Bond actors for the screen side.
The details of the Walther PPS
The name and the idea. PPS stands for Polizei-Pistole Schmal, police pistol slim. Walther describes the PPS as the pistol that introduced a polymer single-stack format to concealed carry, and says the current M2 is a refined version of the original design, only an inch thick.
The M2 today. The PPS M2 is a 9mm with a 3.2-inch barrel. Walther lists magazines of 7 and 8 rounds, a low-profile three-dot steel sight set, slide serrations front and rear, and a 6.1lb trigger pull. A loaded-chamber viewport lets the owner check the pistol’s status at a glance. It was also offered in .40 S&W.
Why it suits the character
A slim pistol makes sense for a Bond who works in a suit and is meant to be unobtrusive. It is a judgement of ours, not a claim from the book, but the PPS fits that idea: Walther’s own pitch is that it vanishes under clothing, and it compares the M2’s thickness with everyday objects to prove the point. The low-profile sights are designed not to snag on clothing.
Owning it now
The PPS M2 is current in Walther’s range, and the maker’s page is linked here. Firearms are regulated everywhere, and the model sold to you will depend on local law and your licence; speak to a licensed dealer. Walther’s page showed an MSRP of US$499.00 for one 8-round 3.2-inch 9mm model at the time of writing, October 2026. This page is informational only.
