When MI6 wants to know whether Bond is still fit for duty, it does not guess. In Skyfall the physiology assessment lab is equipped with Cosmed’s metabolic measurement systems, among them the Quark CPET. The Cosmed Quark CPET is real clinical equipment, and one of the few items on this site that is built for a hospital or a performance lab rather than a bedroom.
In the film
MI6 medical staff use Cosmed equipment to assess the cardio-respiratory performance and fitness level of Daniel Craig’s Bond. Cosmed says it supplied the production with its latest metabolic measurement systems, including the Quark CPET. The details
Gas exchange, breath by breath. The current Quark CPET is a stationary metabolic cart that measures oxygen uptake and carbon dioxide output during exercise and at rest. It can be fitted with a mixing chamber for tests at high intensity.
A full test, start to finish. It supports spirometry and exercise flow-volume loops, an optional walking-test module and integration with a wired or wireless 12-lead stress ECG. It exchanges data with electronic medical records.
Software and sensing. Cosmed’s OMNIA software guides the operator, and a paramagnetic oxygen sensor is standard.

This is a medical device, sold by Cosmed to clinics, researchers and performance centres, and the price is given on request. If you want what it measures without the cart, a VO2 max test at a sports medicine clinic or university lab is the usual route, and it is a more useful gift to yourself than another watch.
