It is one of the few Bond props you can drive down a fairway. The Penfold Heart golf ball is the ball Sean Connery’s Bond plays against Auric Goldfinger, and Penfold Golf still sells it, marked with red hearts. A newer version, released on 16 October 2020, has darker hearts, a script logo and an alignment line.
In the film and the book
In Goldfinger, Bond plays a Penfold Heart while beating Goldfinger in their match at Stoke Park, and the line “Here’s my Penfold Hearts” is part of that winning round. Ian Fleming’s novel has the same pairing: Bond plays a Penfold Hearts, while Goldfinger plays a Dunlop 65 Number One.
Playing it now
Penfold describes the current Heart as a three-piece urethane ball with a 350-dimple design and 85 compression, with a softer feel, a high launch, long carry and high spin around the green. We would buy it for a round with friends, where the story is half the point. Penfold lists the Heart at US$40.00 on its own site at the time of writing, October 2026; check the pack size and stock on the page.
