The world of James Bond, considered for a life well lived

Harper Trigger Mortis, US Paperback (Anthony Horowitz)

The Harper paperback is the American printing of Anthony Horowitz’s 2015 continuation novel, set in the 1950s just after Ian Fleming’s Goldfinger. It is the plainest way to read the first Bond novel to draw on recently discovered Fleming material, and a sound copy for a shelf.

The Trigger Mortis Harper paperback is the American printing of Anthony Horowitz’s 2015 continuation novel, which picks up James Bond two weeks after the close of Ian Fleming’s Goldfinger. The catalogue records it as the blue American edition, published by Harper.

In the books

Horowitz was commissioned by the Fleming estate and was given access to unpublished story treatments that Fleming wrote before the films. The story is set in the 1950s: SMERSH plans to sabotage an international Grand Prix, and Bond has to stop it in a game of cat and mouse on the track. It is the first new Bond novel to draw on that recently discovered Fleming material.

Owning it now

Read Goldfinger first. The opening depends on it, and Horowitz’s own favourite Bond novel is the one he picks up from. Choose this edition if you want the American paperback; a UK edition came from Orion. It sits comfortably beside the rest of our books and media, and the book’s world is the one our films section grew out of.
