Pierce Brosnan’s Bond wears his evening clothes in Die Another Day the way a man does who has worn them many times, and the cufflinks are part of that ease. They are round, gold and plain, by S.T. Dupont, with a dark grey metal ring around a gold centre. The S.T. Dupont gold round cufflinks are not in the maker’s current range, so they are found second-hand, but the style is easy to follow.
In the film
Bond wears the cufflinks with a Brioni tuxedo and a Turnbull & Asser shirt in Die Another Day (2002), at Gustav Graves’s party in the Ice Hotel and at the Icarus satellite presentation in his ice palace in Iceland. We have matched them to the S.T. Dupont pair described by Bond collectors; at least one other source credits the cufflinks to Dunhill, so the maker is the least certain point on this page.
The details
Round and quiet. A round face is the plainest cufflink shape there is. Against a white double-cuff shirt it reads as a small circle of warm metal and nothing more, which is exactly what a tuxedo wants.
Gold with a dark ring. The dark grey metal ring around a gold centre gives the pair some definition without any decoration. It stops gold from looking flat and keeps it from looking showy.
Marked on the posts. Photographs of the pair show the posts engraved with the maker’s name and a mark reading Made in England and Paris, a small reminder of S.T. Dupont’s two homes. Only the wearer, and whoever he lets look closely, will see it.
Wearing them now
Gold cufflinks belong with a black-tie evening or a good white shirt under a navy suit, and these are plain enough to do both. Match the metal to the rest of the evening: if the watch is steel, we would choose silver or palladium instead, and keep gold for a gold watch or a dark leather strap. A tuxedo shirt takes a double cuff, so check that yours does before you buy.
Finding the original. Van Braam has described the model as extremely rare and lists it as out of stock, so the practical route is a second-hand search. We link to eBay. Check the photographs of the posts and ask the seller for the marking, as listings sometimes use the name loosely. Prices vary from seller to seller.
The current route. S.T. Dupont still makes cufflinks, and its present collection includes gold and silver pairs as well as black. Browse them on the maker’s cufflink page.
In the same spirit
Two alternatives from our own catalogue, neither worn in this film. The S.T. Dupont Diamond Head square cufflinks are by the same maker. The Tom Ford cylinder cufflinks are a different shape with the same discipline.

He wears round gold cufflinks with a dark grey ring, generally identified as S.T. Dupont, with his Brioni tuxedo and Turnbull & Asser shirt.
Are S.T. Dupont gold round cufflinks still made?
Not this exact pair. S.T. Dupont still sells cufflinks, but the model from the film is out of production and found second-hand.
Are these the same as the Casino Royale cufflinks?
No. The Casino Royale cufflinks are a different S.T. Dupont design, the 5244.
