Anthony Sinclair Madagascar Trousers Limited Edition (Casino Royale)

Linen drawstring trousers recreated by Anthony Sinclair with Academy Costumes from those worn by Daniel Craig’s Bond in the Casino Royale Madagascar chase. They are cut from Irish linen, made in England and sold as a limited edition: an easy summer trouser with a real story behind it.

Most of Bond’s trousers were cut for a dinner table. These were cut to be run in. The Anthony Sinclair Madagascar trousers recreate the loose, drawstring linen pair worn by Daniel Craig’s Bond in the Madagascar chase of Casino Royale. Away from the film, they make a sensible and unfussy trouser for hot weather.

In the film

Bond wears the trousers with the floral shirt through the Madagascar sequence of Casino Royale (2006). Anthony Sinclair says they appear in the very first scene Craig filmed as Bond. They were designed by the costume designer Lindy Hemming and made by Academy Costumes.

This is a recreation, not the costume itself. For the 2026 version Academy returned to its original patterns and construction, working with Anthony Sinclair to mark twenty years since Craig’s debut as 007.

The details of the Anthony Sinclair Madagascar trousers

Irish linen. The cloth is woven by John England, and the maker describes it as lightweight and breathable. It will crease, as linen should. We would not try to press that out of it.

A generous straight leg. There is no taper here. The leg hangs away from the body and moves when you do. It was cut for one of the most physically demanding sequences in Bond history, and it suits a hot day for the same reason.

A drawstring waistband. It gives the trouser its relaxed, unstructured line and makes the fit more forgiving than a fastened waist. It is also the detail that places them in the film at a glance.

Plain, practical pockets. There are slanted side pockets at the front and two patch pockets at the back, all as seen on screen. The patch pockets keep the back of the trouser workmanlike rather than tailored.

Made in England. The trousers are produced exclusively to mark the twentieth anniversary of Craig’s first film as Bond, and are sold as a limited edition.

Wearing it now

These are summer trousers first and a Bond reference second. We would wear them as you would any good linen trouser: with a white or navy cotton polo, or an open-neck linen shirt, and a fine-gauge knit over the shoulders in the evening. Loafers, espadrilles or clean canvas shoes suit them best. They belong at a harbour lunch, on a long flight somewhere warm, or on an evening walk after dinner.

The full costume is a different matter. Anthony Sinclair also sells the Madagascar shirt, and the two together make the complete outfit from the film. We would wear the trousers on their own terms and keep the floral shirt for a holiday where nobody is watching.

Sizing. Waists run from 30in to 38in in even sizes. A custom size is available for a US$100 surcharge, bringing the price to US$495. The drawstring gives some latitude, but an unstructured straight leg looks best when it fits properly, so if you sit between sizes the custom option is worth the extra.

Availability. It is a limited edition, and at the time of writing the maker’s listing shows it as out of stock. Check with Anthony Sinclair before you plan around it.
