Daniel Craig’s Bond is mostly seen in tailoring. In Haiti he is believed to wear something looser: a blue adidas Y-3 jacket over his outfit. The Y-3 jacket from Quantum of Solace is a practical, unshowy piece, and a useful reminder that a considered wardrobe has room for sportswear when it is cut well.

In the film

Our notes, from a secondary source of medium confidence, have Bond in the blue jacket in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, layered over the outfit he has on earlier in the sequence. It is a working piece of clothing rather than a statement. See the rest of what he wears on the Quantum of Solace page.

The details

Y-3. The line is a collaboration between the Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto and adidas, which describes it as streetwear with a high-fashion sensibility. That is the idea behind the line, and it suits a jacket worn for the job rather than for show.

Blue. The jacket in the film is blue. We cannot say more about its shade, fabric or construction, as none of it is confirmed and we will not guess.

Availability. We have not found the exact film piece in adidas’s current range. The Y-3 jackets on sale now are different designs, from windbreakers and track jackets to parkas and bombers, so anything sold as the same jacket is most likely second-hand and the claim needs checking carefully. Our button runs an eBay search for blue Y-3 jackets, the nearest equivalent we can point to.

Wearing it now

The lesson of this look is restraint. A plain blue jacket over a simple shirt or knit, with dark trousers and clean shoes, reads as relaxed without being careless. We would keep everything beneath it plain and let the outer layer be the only sporty element.

Choosing a Y-3 jacket today. Look for a solid colour, a minimal logo and a clean line. Black and navy will go with more of what you own than anything louder. Check the cut before buying: adidas lists its current Y-3 bomber as an oversized fit, though it recommends ordering your usual size.

Pre-owned. If you want the film colour, buy only from a seller who can show the label, tag and clear photographs. Treat claims of an exact match with caution. For more outerwear, browse our clothing category or the pieces worn by Craig’s Bond.

In the same spirit

The exact jacket cannot be named, so the look is the thing to follow: a plain, mid-weight blue outer layer over dark knitwear. Two live pieces in the catalogue do that job. The Connolly Giubbino jacket in navy mixed linen is the lighter, summer-weight choice, and the Billy Reid peacoat in navy is the heavier one. Both are alternatives in the spirit of the look, not the jacket seen on screen.
