Bowers & Wilkins 603 S1 speakers are easy to miss in No Time To Die. A pair stands in the room of Daniel Craig’s Bond in his Jamaican home, alongside a Marantz tuner, amplifier and CD player. It is a grown-up stereo rather than a prop, and the speakers are the part of it you can still go and find.

They are not new. Bond Lifestyle places the 603 S1 in the 600 series of the mid-1990s; B&W’s entry-level range had begun in 1991 and has been revised many times since. That age shapes everything about buying them: this is a second-hand purchase, and a considered one. One Reddit owner says theirs have held up well all these years.

In the film

Two speakers stand in Bond’s room in his Jamaican home, visible in set photographs. Bond Lifestyle identifies them as Bowers & Wilkins 603 S1 speakers, and lists them with the Marantz tuner, amplifier and CD player in the same house. A reader comment on that page gives the full name as DM603 S1, which is also how second-hand listings label them. The identification rests on set photographs and one fan site, so we describe the model as believed to be the 603 S1 rather than confirmed. We have no scene to point to beyond the room itself.

Bowers & Wilkins 603 S1 speakers: the details

The S1 is a floorstanding speaker, the first of the three generations of the 603 that owners compare as S1, S2 and S3. B&W’s own page for the later 603 S3 describes it as the largest loudspeaker in the 600 Series, so the name has carried on.

Opinion on the sound is divided, and worth knowing before you buy. In one long-running AVForums thread, a poster advises avoiding the S1, saying its bass driver worked as a passive radiator and its tweeter was weaker than later versions. Another poster in the same thread says the S2 sounds best of the three. Set that against the Reddit owner who simply loves the sound of theirs.

Our view: buy the S1 if the film is the reason, and audition an S2 or S3 if sound alone decides it.

Living with them now

Search for DM603 S1 as well as 603 S1, since second-hand listings use the longer name. Current eBay listings are a sensible starting point. Floorstanders are bulky, so collect in person where you can, and listen to the pair before you pay.

Condition matters more than price on a pair of this age. Owners have written up repairs on AVForums, which is worth reading first so you know what a worn pair might need. If you want the room to hang together as it does in the film, we would run them from a Marantz amplifier.

If you would rather buy new, the Px8 007 Edition headphones carry the Bond name and are a current Bowers & Wilkins product.

Questions

Which speakers does Bond have in No Time To Die?

Bowers & Wilkins 603 S1 floorstanding speakers, from the 600 series. A pair stands in his room in his Jamaican home, and the same house has a Marantz tuner, amplifier and CD player.

Is the 603 S1 the same as the DM603 S1?

Second-hand listings use the DM603 S1 name, and a reader comment on Bond Lifestyle gives the same name for the film’s speakers. Search both when you are looking for a pair.

Does Bowers & Wilkins still make the 603 S1?

Not as far as we can find. The range has moved on through later generations, such as the 603 S3, so a 603 S1 now means a second-hand pair.

Is the 603 S1 worth buying today?

Yes, if the film connection is the reason and you buy with care. Some forum opinion rates the S2 and S3 above it for sound, so listen to a pair first and read the owner threads on repairs before you commit.

More from the same house: the Tivoli Model One radio and the Marantz stereo equipment.
