The Douglas Pell money clip is one of the smallest things Bond carries in Casino Royale, and one of the easiest to miss. It is a single folded strip of sterling silver, hallmarked by the London Assay Office, with nothing on it that asks to be noticed. For a man who wants to carry less, the Douglas Pell money clip makes a quiet case for itself.

In the film

Daniel Craig’s Bond has the clip in his right pocket when he and Vesper reach Montenegro in Casino Royale (2006). When the porter hands him an envelope, he takes it out, removes a note with his right hand and passes the clip, still holding a bank card and notes, to his left. The whole exchange takes about two seconds and is, as far as we can tell, the only time it appears. The model sold today is the same as the one in the film, except for the final date letter in the hallmark.

The details of the Douglas Pell money clip

Solid sterling silver. It is made of 925 silver and fully hallmarked, which is rarer on a small accessory than it should be. The marks are the maker’s initials DP, the number 925 in an oval, a leopard’s head for the London Assay Office, and a letter for the year of manufacture.

Size. It measures 50mm by 18mm, which is narrow enough to sit flat in a trouser or jacket pocket without the bulk of a wallet.

No ornament. The surface is plain. It is the opposite of the novelty clips in the same maker’s range, with boats, dollar signs and diamonds, and it is better for it.

Owning it now

A money clip suits a man who has already edited his pockets: a licence, one or two cards, and a fold of cash. It takes a slim wallet’s job in a fraction of the space, and a silver clip slips into a jacket’s inner pocket without disturbing the cut.

Two practical points. Silver marks easily, so keep it away from keys and loose change. And a clip loosens when it is asked to hold more than a few cards, so it works best if you commit to carrying less.

Which to buy. The Douglas Pell James Bond edition is the match. Prices vary by seller; at the time of writing, City of London Jewellers lists it at £142 (October 2026).
