The Sanders Hi-Top chukka boot is easy to like. In the London finale of Spectre, Daniel Craig’s Bond wears brown suede chukkas on crepe soles through the closing action, including the Thames speedboat chase: soft, slim, unfussy, and a good deal easier to live with than anything on a conventional shoe rack. They remain in Sanders’ regular collection and, in our view, are the most useful boot in the Craig wardrobe.

In the film

Bond wears Sanders Hi-Top chukka boots in the closing action of Spectre (2015), including the speedboat chase on the Thames, with a suede jacket. Which colour is on screen, Chocolate or Snuff, is still debated by those who study such things, so we won’t pretend to settle it.

The details of the Sanders Hi-Top chukka boot

Suede, soft from the first day. The upper is suede and the boot is fully lined in leather. Suede forgives a scuffed afternoon and ages into something with character, which is why it suits a boot meant to be worn often.

A slim last. The Hi-Top is built on Sanders’ JOEL last, which the maker describes as having a pointed toe. It reads slimmer and more tapered than the rounder, more relaxed Sam chukka, which Sanders builds on its SNO last. If you want a boot that looks as good with a suit trouser as with jeans, the Hi-Top is the one.

Crepe sole. The natural crepe sole sets off dark suede. It is a casual sole, and it is not the one to choose for a wet city pavement.

Made in England. Sanders has been making shoes since 1873, and the Hi-Top, code 6480TDS in Chocolate, is made in England. A pull tab at the rear helps with getting it on.

Colours. The Chocolate (dark brown) suede is the one most readers will want. Sanders also cuts the Hi-Top in Polo Snuff, a lighter brown, and in other colours including navy and moss green.

Wearing it now

This is a boot for the weekend and for the long way home. Brown suede works with navy and grey knitwear, olive field jackets, cord and moleskin trousers, and dark denim. It also works under a grey flannel suit trouser when the office is relaxed, so long as the trouser is cut clean and the hem sits at the ankle. We would not wear it with a dinner suit, or to a funeral.

Chocolate or Snuff? We would choose Chocolate. It is the darker, more adaptable of the two. The Snuff is the more casual boot and wants lighter trousers around it.

Sizing. Sanders recommends taking the Hi-Top half a size up from your usual size, and one retailer says the same. The fitting is F, a medium-wide width, and the last is slim, so try a pair on if you can. If you are broader across the foot, the Sam may suit you better.

Care. A suede brush and a protective spray before the first wear are worth the few minutes. Cedar shoe trees help the boot hold its shape.

Questions

Are these the boots Bond wears in Spectre?

Yes, the model is the same: Daniel Craig’s Bond wears Sanders Hi-Top chukka boots in the London finale. The exact colour on screen, Chocolate or Snuff, is not confirmed.

Do Sanders Hi-Top chukka boots run small?

Sanders recommends going half a size up from your usual size, and the fitting is F. If you are between sizes, take the larger.

What is the difference between the Hi-Top and the Sam?

The shape of the toe. The Hi-Top is built on the JOEL last, which is slimmer and more pointed. The Sam uses the SNO last, which is rounder and roomier, and Sanders suggests a half size down from your Hi-Top size.

How much do the boots cost?

At the time of writing, October 2026, the RRP on Sanders’ own site is £295. Other retailers price the boot differently, and prices vary by country.
