Bose Home Speaker 500 (No Time To Die)

You have to look for it. In M’s office in No Time To Die, the silver Bose Home Speaker 500 sits on the shelves behind Ralph Fiennes’s M, visible in his scenes with Moneypenny and again in his meeting with Daniel Craig’s Bond. It is part of the furniture rather than a statement, and we like that: a speaker made to live in a room, not to announce itself.

Owning the Bose Home Speaker 500 now

It is out of production. Bose’s support page lists it as sold from 2018 to 2024, latterly as the Smart Speaker 500, and its own Smart Speaker 500 Set page shows it sold out, so any example you find is second-hand. Our button is an eBay search for it. Check the finish: the film speaker is silver.

We would put it on a shelf or sideboard, off the floor, as the main speaker in a study or kitchen. It connects over Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and AirPlay 2, takes Spotify Connect, and has a 3.5mm input for anything older. Six preset buttons start your favourite stations or playlists without a phone, and the colour display shows what is playing. A single button cuts power to the microphones, which is worth knowing in a room where you talk business. It uses the Bose Music app and does not work with SoundTouch products. In the same spirit

These are alternatives, not the speaker from the film. The Bose SoundLink Revolve is a compact Bluetooth speaker from the same maker, small enough for a desk. The Tivoli Audio Model One Bluetooth Radio is a wood-cased radio that also streams from a phone, and sits on a shelf as quietly.
