The world of James Bond, considered for a life well lived

Brunello Cucinelli Oxford Shirt ML6940038C008 (No Time To Die)

A blue cotton Oxford with a button-down collar, made in Italy by Brunello Cucinelli. Daniel Craig’s Bond wears it through the Matera chase in No Time To Die, and its plainness is the reason it is worth owning. We could not find it sold new, so we link to an eBay search.

Daniel Craig’s Bond wears one of his plainest shirts in No Time To Die: a blue cotton Oxford with a button-down collar, no pattern, no contrast collar and no flourish. The Brunello Cucinelli Oxford shirt, reference ML6940038C008, is the sort of garment a man buys once, wears for years and never has to think about.

In the film

Bond wears it in No Time To Die (2021) during the chase scenes in Matera, Italy, with a corduroy suit by Massimo Alba and boots by Drake’s. The shirt is prominently worn throughout the sequence. More on the film is on our No Time To Die page.

The details of the Brunello Cucinelli Oxford shirt

Oxford cotton. The shirt is made from 100% cotton in an Oxford weave, a textured cloth that is more casual than poplin. That suits a shirt meant to be lived in.

A button-down collar. Bond has worn one on only a handful of occasions. It is a casual collar, made for the weekend and the field rather than a dinner jacket, and the shirt is worn that way here.

Button cuffs and a plain placket. Button cuffs and a standard front placket keep the shirt simple. There is nothing to date it.

Made in Italy. The shirt is cut and made in Italy from 100% cotton.

Buttons. One collector reports that retail versions of this reference came with either white mother-of-pearl or brown horn buttons, and that the production changed the buttons on the film shirt to blue. We cannot confirm this from the maker, so check the buttons if they matter to you.

Wearing it now

A blue Oxford is among the most useful shirts a man can own, and this is a good one. We would wear it open at the neck under an unstructured jacket, in corduroy or soft wool, with dark chinos or moleskins and brown suede or leather boots. That is very close to Bond’s Matera look, and it works because every piece is quiet.

It is equally good alone, with the sleeves turned back twice and the collar left to roll. Under a navy knit it gives a little structure at the neck without a tie. We would not wear it with a tie or under a dinner jacket; the button-down collar is not made for either.

Fit. We have not handled this shirt and cannot speak to how it cuts. Brunello Cucinelli sells Oxford shirts in more than one fit, so try the reference you are considering before you buy.

Availability. We could not find this exact reference sold new online, so we treat it as out of production and found second-hand. Our button runs an eBay search for the reference. A boutique may still hold stock, and the maker’s current men’s shirts show the nearest equivalent.
