In No Time To Die, Daniel Craig’s Bond wears a shirt that does not ask to be noticed: oatmeal, a cotton-linen blend, cut and sewn by hand in Italy, with a cutaway collar and an open placket. The Connolly No Time To Die shirt is, in our view, the easiest piece in the film’s wardrobe to bring into an ordinary week.
In the film
Connolly names this as the Connolly x Finamore shirt worn by Bond in No Time To Die (2021). It appears across more than one of his outfits. One Norway look appears to pair it with the drive in the Aston Martin V8 Vantage, though we have not pinned down every scene. Connolly made a run of 50 in September 2020, which sold out almost at once, and brought the shirt back in September 2021 within its 007 x Connolly Collection.
The details of the Connolly No Time To Die shirt
Cotton and linen, 70/30. The linen gives the cloth its dry, open texture. The cotton softens its tendency to crease, though a linen blend will always crease, and it should. Pressed flat it looks like a different shirt.
A cutaway collar and an open placket. The collar sits wide and relaxed, with no tie in mind. It is a shirt made to be worn open at the neck.
A curved cuff. The rounded corner is softer than a square one, and suits a shirt that is meant to look relaxed.
Hand work in the places you don’t look. The buttons are sewn by hand and the armholes are hand finished. There is also what Connolly calls a ‘Mouche’ finish at the foot of the side seams. This is Neapolitan shirtmaking, by Finamore, and the care shows in the small places first.
Oatmeal. It is a warm, muted neutral, paler than khaki and softer than white. It takes navy, olive and brown without argument.
Wearing it now
This is a shirt for the long lunch, the weekend away and the warm evening that turns cool. Wear it open at the collar with the sleeves pushed up once or twice. We would put it under a navy jacket, and Connolly’s own Giubbino, the other hero piece in its Bond collection, is the obvious partner. Chinos, a pair of dark suede boots and little else completes it.
Where it doesn’t belong. We wouldn’t wear it with a tie, or under a suit that needs a crisp white shirt. The cutaway collar and the linen are happiest when the clothes around them are relaxed.
Sizing and care. Check Connolly’s size guide before you order, as the cut is Italian and sizing varies from maker to maker. Follow the care label, and press it while it is slightly damp. A shirt like this wants to look lived in, not starched.
