The world of James Bond, considered for a life well lived

Dior Homme Blue Peacoat-Style Jacket (Spectre)

A navy Dior Homme jacket, described as peacoat-style, worn by Daniel Craig’s Bond on the lake boat and at Mr White’s cabin in Spectre. It is out of production and found second-hand, so this page is as much a guide to the look as to the object.

In the Austrian chapter of Spectre, Daniel Craig’s Bond wears a navy jacket from Dior Homme, cut in the manner of a peacoat. The Dior Homme Spectre jacket is out of production and found second-hand, which makes it as much an idea to borrow as an object to own. This page sets out what is known about it and how to build the look from what can be bought today.

In the film

Bond wears the jacket in Spectre on the boat crossing the lake in Austria and again when he meets Mr White at the mountain cabin in Altaussee. At the cabin it is worn with the N.Peal roll neck, so the outfit reads as a single cold-weather layer. Both scenes are in the Austrian sequence, and it is the one outer layer that ties them together.

The details of the Dior Homme Spectre jacket

The maker. Film-wardrobe sources credit the jacket to Dior Homme. We have found no Dior product page for it, and no current retailer, so the attribution rests on those secondary sources rather than on the house itself.

The cut. “Peacoat-style” is shorthand for the shape: a close, dark outer layer rather than a long overcoat. It is a description, not a Dior model name, and it is the proportion worth borrowing.

Navy, not black. Navy is dark enough to pass as a neutral in low light, yet it still reads as colour against snow and water. One source describes the fabric as navy cashmere; we have not been able to confirm that against Dior, so treat the cloth as reported rather than established.

Hard to find. Sources that follow the film’s wardrobe describe the jacket as no longer available from Dior. Second-hand copies may surface, and our button runs an eBay search for it.

Wearing it now

Dior no longer sells this jacket. If you look for one second-hand, ask for photographs of the labels and the construction, and treat any listing that invokes the film with caution, as we have no way of verifying them. If you want the look, start with proportion: a navy jacket cut close and short of the knee, in a dense wool or cashmere, with a plain front.

Wear it over a fine-gauge roll neck, as Bond does at the cabin, with dark trousers and boots with a proper sole. The best version of this look is one that fits you properly: sleeves that end at the wrist bone, shoulders that sit flat, and room for a knit underneath without strain.

Dior’s current menswear includes navy peacoats, among them a double-breasted style in double-sided wool with horn buttons, and a newer one in virgin wool and cashmere with gold-tone buttons. They are different designs and should not be mistaken for the film jacket, though they show what the house cuts in navy today. Our view: buy the cut and the cloth, not the label. The wider context is in our guide to Spectre and in Craig’s years as Bond.

In the same spirit

If you would rather buy new, the shape to look for is a close, navy, short-of-the-knee coat. Our Billy Reid Bond Peacoat in Navy is a navy peacoat in Melton wool, made in Italy. It is a different coat, listed here as an alternative in the same spirit and not as the Dior jacket.

Questions

What jacket does Bond wear to meet Mr White in Spectre?

He wears a navy Dior Homme jacket, described as peacoat-style, over an N.Peal roll neck. He also wears it on the lake boat in the same Austrian sequence.

Can you still buy the Dior Homme jacket from Spectre?

Not new. Sources describe it as no longer available from Dior, so second-hand is the only route and our button searches eBay. Any resale listing that claims a film connection is hard to verify, and we would treat it with caution.

Is Dior’s current navy peacoat the same jacket?

No. Dior’s current navy peacoats are separate designs with different details. They are close in spirit, but they are not the jacket Bond wears.

What is the closest alternative?

Look for a short, close-cut navy jacket in dense wool or cashmere, without ornament. Cut and fit matter more than the label.
