Dom Pérignon is the champagne Bond reaches for in the novels and the films, and it is a vintage house through and through. The maker’s own site is headed “Vintage only”, and each Dom Pérignon is made in a single year. The Dom Pérignon Champagne in Bond’s stories is less a bottle than a habit of choosing well.
In the books
In Fleming’s Moonraker, Bond has two bottles of Dom Pérignon ’46 at Blades, suggested by the wine-waiter, after M notes that the club does not carry Taittinger. On screen, Connery’s Bond meets it again and again. Dr No serves the ’55 in Dr. No and Bond says he prefers the ’53; in Goldfinger the ’53 is poured for Jill Masterson with a lecture on serving temperature; Thunderball has the ’55 with caviar at Nassau; You Only Live Twice serves the ’59. See the films and the Bonds for the rest.
Buying it now
Dom Pérignon is a vintage cuvée made by the Moët & Chandon house in exceptional years only, so you buy a date rather than a bottling. At the time of writing, October 2026, Premier Champagne lists the 2015 at US$299.99 and the 2010 Rosé at US$459.99. We would choose a recent vintage to drink and keep a magnum for an occasion. The bottles named in the books are long gone from shelves, but any vintage tells the same story.
In the same spirit. For another vintage bottle from Bond’s wine list, there is Bollinger R.D. 2002 Extra Brut, a different house and a different style.
