Double or Nothing by Kim Sherwood is the first novel in a new Double O trilogy, and it starts with an absence: James Bond is missing. The book hands the story to a younger generation of agents, which is why it is worth reading even if you think you know where Bond goes next.
In the books
Bond has been captured, perhaps killed, by a private military company. The agents sent to find out are Johanna Harwood (003), Joseph Dryden (004) and Sid Bashir (009), who are investigating a tech billionaire, Sir Bertram Paradise, who says he can reverse the climate crisis. Goodreads gives 368 pages in hardback and a first publication date of 1 September 2022. The catalogue lists the UK hardback as gold-foiled.
Reading it now
HarperCollins lists the paperback in the US at US$15.19, with large-print, ebook and audiobook editions also available. The trilogy continues with A Spy Like Me and Hurricane Room, according to the author’s site, so start here. We would read it for the ensemble, not for a solo Bond.
