In Skyfall, Daniel Craig’s suits are cut close, and the man who replaces M is dressed to contrast. In the film
Ralph Fiennes’ Mallory wears the dark blue Fleur De Lys braces during his first meeting with M and again when he visits Q and Tanner in Q’s office. The embroidered pattern and the engraved brass levers can only just be seen. The original pair cost GBP 55 and is no longer sold, but Ede & Ravenscroft’s current navy Fleur De Lys braces are the closest match we have found.
The details
Embroidered webbing. The braces are crafted in England from webbed elastic with an embroidered Fleur De Lys motif. The film pair is dark blue, and the current shop pair is navy.
Leather shoulders and button ends. The shoulders are handstitched leather, and the ends take buttons rather than clips. The film pair has black leather ends and brass levers engraved with the Ede & Ravenscroft name, and comes in one size.
Wearing it now
Braces with button ends need buttons inside the waistband, which most trousers made for the purpose already have. Wear them with trousers cut high enough to sit at the natural waist, without a belt, and keep the jacket on: braces are an undergarment first. Navy suits the grey and charcoal suits we would pair them with, and a white or pale blue shirt. The maker calls them suited to formal occasions.
