The Folio Society The Spy Who Loved Me is the odd one out in the Bond shelf, and Folio treats it that way: Fay Dalton’s colour illustrations, a pictorial slipcase and, for the first time in modern editions, Fleming’s original prologue.
In the books
For the only time in the series, Bond is seen through another character’s eyes. The narrator is Vivienne Michel, who meets him at Mr Sanguinetti’s motel and finds him both frightening and alluring. Folio has restored a short opening note, removed from modern texts, which suggests she left the manuscript on Fleming’s desk.
Owning it now
The edition dates from 2020 and runs to 240 pages at 9 inches by 6¼, bound in blocked cloth that Folio says nods to Bond’s suits. A good choice if you know the film and want to read the source. More in Books & Media, and the screen version under films.
