The whisky that Silva pours for Bond on his island in Skyfall is introduced as fifty years old, and it carries the weight of the scene: two men, very small glasses, and a bottle worth more than the conversation. The Macallan Fine & Rare 1962 is that whisky, and it is, in fact, a rarity that most people will only ever read about.
In the film
Silva shares the Macallan 1962 with Daniel Craig’s Bond in small shot glasses during the sequence on his private island. The film calls it a fifty-year-old, and Macallan itself ties the bottle to the franchise’s fiftieth anniversary. The whisky is a 1962 vintage bottled in 1977, so it is nearer fifteen years old. A signed bottle (Craig, Javier Bardem and Bérénice Marlohe) was auctioned for charity at Sotheby’s on 17 April 2013 and sold for GBP 9,635. See our Skyfall page for the scene.
Owning it now
Macallan describes it as a 15-year-old, 44.1% whisky in a 70cl bottle (750ml also exists), bottled in 1977, with a total outturn of 141 bottle equivalents, acquired in bottle from a private collection. Macallan’s own page invites you to register interest rather than buy, so the route is a specialist retailer or an auction. Wine-Searcher shows an average price of US$54,615 before tax at the time of writing.
We would treat it as a bottle to own rather than drink, and buy it only with provenance you can check. Cask Cartel has listed a 700ml bottle, and our button goes to that page; confirm the price, fill level and condition before you commit. For a cheaper nod to the film, the food and drink category has other bottles that appear on screen.
