Away from the tailoring and the hardware, Daniel Craig’s Bond spends the Matera sequence of No Time To Die in soft grey corduroy. The Massimo Alba Winch corduroy trousers are slim, flat-fronted and entirely without drama: the trousers of a man with somewhere pleasant to be. We think they are the most useful thing in Bond’s off-duty wardrobe, and one of the few pieces from the film you could wear tomorrow without anyone spotting the reference.

In the film

Bond wears the Winch in the romantic Matera scenes of No Time To Die (2021), alongside Madeleine Swann, with a black Massimo Alba Max2 leather belt. The model is the Winch, T0301, in the colour Alluminio (U809), which Massimo Alba now lists as the Winch2.

The details of the Massimo Alba Winch corduroy trousers

Baby corduroy. The cloth is cotton needlecord, a very fine rib that Massimo Alba calls baby corduroy. It is finer than the wide wale of country cord, so the trousers read as a soft, even texture rather than a pattern.

Alluminio. A muted grey that sits comfortably beside navy, olive, cream and brown, which is why it works so hard in a wardrobe.

A slim, flat front. The cut is slim with no pleats, so the line stays clean from waist to hem. It is a more modern shape than traditional cords, and it suits a man who wants the fabric to look relaxed while the outline stays sharp.

Quiet construction. Welt pockets keep the line of the hip smooth. The front closes with a tab, a dark horn button and a concealed zip, and there are belt loops at the waist. The horn button is the one note of detail, and it is dark enough to go unremarked.

Italian sizing. Massimo Alba lists sizes 44 to 60. The brand’s own model, 190cm tall, wears a 48.

Wearing it now

Grey cord is autumn and early spring dressing at its easiest. We would wear these with a navy knit and a white shirt open at the collar, or under an unstructured navy jacket for dinner that is not quite dinner. Suede loafers or desert boots suit the cloth better than anything polished. Leave the tie at home.

The belt. Do it the way the film does and choose black leather. Massimo Alba sells the Max2 in nero at US$375 (RRP at the time of writing, October 2026). A plain black belt is a less costly route to the same look, and it matters less than the fit.

Fit. The cut is slim and corduroy has little give, so choose your size by trying on. Italian sizing runs differently from British and American, so use the maker’s size guide first.

Care. The maker’s label says dry clean, and not to wash, bleach or tumble dry; iron cool. It is a little more trouble than denim, but it is the maker’s instruction and worth following.

Availability. At the time of writing, Massimo Alba’s page marked most sizes as awaiting restock. If you know your size and it is in stock, it is worth owning.
