The world of James Bond, considered for a life well lived

N.Peal Oxford Round Neck Sweater Blue Wave (Skyfall)

A 1-ply cashmere round neck in Blue Wave, the colour Daniel Craig’s Bond wears under his Barbour jacket in the Scotland scenes of Skyfall. It is a plain knit with nothing on the chest, and that restraint is the case for owning it.

Daniel Craig’s Bond pulls on a blue cashmere sweater when Skyfall leaves the city for Scotland: round neck, nothing on the chest. The N.Peal Oxford round neck sweater has no argument to make, which is why it looks so at ease on screen, and why it suits a man with no wish to dress as anyone else.

In the film

Bond wears it in Skyfall (2012) under his Barbour jacket through the Scotland scenes, including the defence of Skyfall Lodge. The colour on screen is the one N.Peal calls Blue Wave, and the sweater is the same model N.Peal sells as the Oxford Round Neck. Craig also wore the Oxford, in Imperial Blue, at the December 2014 announcement of Spectre, but that was a press appearance, not the film.

The details of the N.Peal Oxford round neck sweater

100% cashmere, single ply. A one-ply knit is the lighter weight, which suits layering under a jacket. It makes this a sweater for wearing beneath other things rather than a statement piece.

A plain round neck. There is a round neck, ribbed cuffs and nothing on the chest. That restraint lets it sit over a collared shirt or under a coat without any of it looking like an effort.

Blue Wave. This is the colour from the film. If blue is not for you, N.Peal also makes the Oxford in navy, black, deep charcoal grey, cocoa brown, sage green and sea mist blue.

Still made. N.Peal still sells the Oxford in several colours, so there is no need to hunt for a pre-owned one.

Wearing it now

This is a sweater for the country and the city alike. Put it under a field jacket or a tweed coat, with chinos, cords or grey flannels and a pair of suede boots. We would also wear it over an open-neck shirt, with nothing else on show. One cashmere knit worn well will do more for a weekend wardrobe than five loud ones.

Which colour? Blue Wave is the one from the film, and the one we would pick if the point is the Bond connection. If you want a single sweater to do the most work, navy or deep charcoal will pair with more of what you already own.

Care. Follow the label first. As a general rule, wash cashmere by hand in cool water or have it dry-cleaned, dry it flat, and fold it rather than hang it, so the shoulders keep their shape.

Questions

Is this the sweater Bond wears in Skyfall?

Yes, in the Blue Wave colour. Bond wears the N.Peal Oxford round neck sweater under his Barbour jacket in the Scotland scenes of Skyfall, and N.Peal credits the Blue Wave version to that film.

What colour is the Skyfall sweater?

It is a blue that N.Peal calls Blue Wave. The Imperial Blue Craig wore at the 2014 Spectre announcement is a different colour, worn off screen.

How much does the N.Peal Skyfall sweater cost?

N.Peal sets the price, and it differs between its US and UK sites. Check the Blue Wave page for the current figure.

How should I look after a cashmere sweater?

Read the label, then wash by hand in cool water or dry-clean. Dry it flat and fold it away rather than hanging it, which stretches the knit.
