The lighter on the bar in the Macau casino is a small, ordinary object, and the film treats it as one. The Pierre Cardin Classic Black Lacquer lighter has black lacquered sides and a chrome top, and it measures 57mm by 39mm and 12mm thick. It is the kind of lighter you could carry for years without noticing it, which is rather its charm.
In Skyfall (2012), Séverine, played by Bérénice Marlohe, uses it in the casino. It lies on the bar, and we see it close up when Daniel Craig’s Bond catches her hand to stop her leaving.
Using it now
This is a butane lighter, model 105309, also listed under the numbers MFH 227-01 and MFH 277-01. The lacquer and chrome pairing is plain enough to sit in a jacket pocket beside keys without drawing comment. We would keep it as a quiet everyday carry, or give it as a modest present to someone who lights candles, a pipe or a cigar. Retailers also list a satin-silver version; the black lacquer is the one in the film.
Check the refill and the flint before you rely on it, and keep it away from heat.
