Not every piece of costume in a Bond film is built for the camera. Some are simply well chosen. The Rejina Pyo Rebecca top is a plain, sleeveless mock neck in knit jersey, and in No Time To Die it does the quiet work of anchoring an outfit that might otherwise be all blazer. It is worth knowing for what it shows: a single warm, simple layer can carry a look. The top is from Resort 2019 and is out of production, so it is found second-hand; the button below is a search of eBay for it.
In the film
Lashana Lynch’s Nomi wears the top in No Time To Die, in scenes inside an MI6 building, under an orange blazer. The tie that Rejina Pyo places at the back of the neck is worn at the front in the film. For the wider picture, see our page on No Time To Die.
The details of the Rejina Pyo Rebecca top
Chestnut jersey. The colourway is Jersey Chestnut, a warm brown. It sits well beside orange, khaki, olive and navy, and it does not compete with them.
A sleeveless mock neck. The cut is close and uncluttered, with a high neck and no sleeves. Without sleeves it layers cleanly under a blazer or jacket, and the arms stay free for the layer on top.
The tie. Rejina Pyo ties the neck at the back, which sets the top apart from a standard roll neck. Nomi turns it round to the front, and that small decision is the whole styling idea: the same piece can be worn two ways.
Resort 2019. The top comes from the label’s Resort 2019 collection. Rejina Pyo is a London-based designer, born in South Korea, and the label is known for thoughtful, modern design.
Wearing it now
We would wear it as Nomi does, as the plain layer beneath something with more to say. A tailored jacket in orange, camel, olive or navy suits it, as do khaki or cream trousers and a leather belt with some weight to it. Gold jewellery, kept simple, picks up the warmth of the brown. It is also a sound choice for a smart-casual office day, where it reads as more considered than a shirt and less formal than a suit.
Tie at the back or the front? At the back, the top is clean and minimal. At the front, it takes on the look from the film. We would try both and keep whichever suits the jacket over it.
Finding one. This is a past-season piece, out of production and found second-hand. Check size, colour and condition in each listing, and ask for the composition if it is not stated.
In the same spirit
If you would rather buy new, a fine-gauge mock neck in a warm tone does the same job under a jacket. In the spirit of the original, and not what Nomi wears, our N.Peal fine gauge mock turtle neck is a considered alternative: close, high at the neck and quiet enough to sit under a blazer.
