Anthony Horowitz’s first Bond novel returns to the 1950s. Trigger Mortis, published by Orion in 2015, is set in 1957, two weeks after the end of Ian Fleming’s Goldfinger, and it was commissioned by the Fleming estate. The Orion edition is the one we link to, from the publisher’s own page.
In the books
This is a continuation novel and the thirty-ninth official Bond book. Its backdrop is the Soviet-American space race, and it brings back Pussy Galore. The book also includes previously unseen Fleming material: a motor racing scene that began as an idea Fleming had for a television series that was never made.
Reading it now
We would start here if you have read Fleming and want a continuation that stays in his period. Readers disagree on how it compares with Fleming, but it is set in his own period, and it is the first of three Horowitz books. A paperback is a sensible way to own it, and used copies of the Orion edition are widely listed second-hand.
