The World Is Not Enough novelisation, by Raymond Benson and published by Hodder and Stoughton in 1999, retells the nineteenth Bond film on the page. It follows the screenplay by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, and it was Benson’s fourth Bond book, after his adaptation of Tomorrow Never Dies and several short stories.

In the books

The story follows the film: oil tycoon Sir Robert King is killed in a bombing at MI6’s London headquarters, and Bond is sent to protect his daughter Elektra from the man behind it. Because it is prose, it records small things the film leaves unnamed. Our catalogue notes that the book calls King’s lapel pin the “Eye of the Glens”.

Reading it now

We would read it after seeing the film, as a second look at the same story rather than a replacement for it. One reviewer describes it as closely following what appeared on screen while letting the reader recast the film. At 247 pages in paperback it is quick to read.
