In M’s apartment in Casino Royale, Daniel Craig’s Bond sits in her chair while he uses her laptop. It is a chair built for work rather than show: a graphite frame on a polished aluminium base, with a woven seat and back. It is a Herman Miller Aeron chair, and one of the few objects from the film you can still buy and use every day.
In the film
In Casino Royale (2006), Bond sits in the Aeron while he checks M’s laptop. The chair is hers. On screen it has a graphite frame, a polished aluminium base, a tuxedo-weave seat and back, adjustable arms with black leather pads and what appears to be a PostureFit lumbar support. It predates Herman Miller’s 2016 remaster, so strictly it is the design the maker now calls the Classic Aeron.
The details of the Herman Miller Aeron chair
Suspension, not upholstery. The seat and back are Pellicle suspension material. You sit on a tensioned surface rather than a cushion, which is the whole idea of the chair.
Two designers, one long development. Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick began work in the late 1970s, and the chair launched in 1994. Chadwick himself remastered it in 2016, and since 2021 Herman Miller has used ocean-bound plastic in it.
Made to adjust. Herman Miller designed the Aeron for a wide range of body types. On the store listing the seat height runs from 14.75 to 19 inches, and the arms adjust too. The point of an adjustable chair is that it fits you, rather than the other way round.
The finish. Graphite frame with a polished aluminium base is the film’s combination, and Herman Miller’s store shows polished aluminium bases among its current finishes. In our view a dark frame on a bright base reads as engineered rather than corporate, which suits a room of wood and books.
Weight and warranty. At about 40 pounds it is built like a piece of equipment rather than furniture. A new chair carries Herman Miller’s 12-year warranty.
Owning it now
This is the Bond object that earns its place in a real study. Put it at a plain oak or walnut desk, in a room that is used for work and not a corner of the kitchen, and it will do its job without announcing itself. We would not hide it; the polished base is good enough to be seen.
Which version? We would choose the graphite frame with the polished aluminium base, as in the film. We have not confirmed that the leather arm pads and tuxedo weave are available on today’s chair, so check the configuration before ordering if those details matter to you.
New or refurbished? A new chair gives full customisation and the longer warranty. Herman Miller also sells refurbished Aerons restored with genuine parts and a 5-year refurbished warranty. At the time of writing, October 2026, a graphite Refurbished Aeron Chair – Classic is listed at US$795 to US$815. Refurbished chairs are final sale and may show cosmetic wear, but the Classic is the generation of the chair on screen.
Sizing. Fit matters more than finish. Read Herman Miller’s sizing guidance before you order, and sit in one if you can.

Questions
Is this the chair Bond sits in during Casino Royale?
Yes, it is the same model. M owns the chair, and Bond sits in it in her apartment while he checks her laptop. The chair on screen predates the 2016 remaster, so today’s chair is its direct successor rather than the identical production chair.
Does the Aeron appear in other Bond films?
Yes, briefly, in The World Is Not Enough (1999). Elektra King sits in one in her construction-site shed office in Azerbaijan while she talks to Bond.
How much does the Herman Miller Aeron cost?
RRP at the time of writing, October 2026, is US$2,305 for the standard Aeron Chair on Herman Miller’s store. Herman Miller’s own refurbished chairs were listed from US$795.
Is a refurbished Aeron worth buying?
In our view, yes, if it comes from Herman Miller’s own programme. Used chairs are inspected, cleaned and repaired with genuine parts and carry a 5-year warranty, though they are final sale and may show cosmetic wear.
