The world of James Bond, considered for a life well lived

Longines Conquest Heritage Rose Gold Watch L1.611.8.78.4 (Spectre)

A 35mm rose gold watch with a silver sunray dial and a black crocodile strap, worn by M in Spectre. It barely registers on screen, which is much of its appeal: a small, dressy automatic with a date at 12 and nothing to prove.

Some of the best watches in the Bond films are the ones you hardly see. The Longines Conquest Heritage rose gold watch worn by M in Spectre is almost lost on screen, yet it makes a quiet case for the small, gold-cased automatic: 35mm across, a silver sunray dial, a black crocodile strap and a date at 12 o’clock, in the manner of the original Conquest.

In the film

M, played by Ralph Fiennes, wears the Longines in Spectre (2015). It is so rarely in shot that the brand and model were only identified through Christie’s sale of material from the film in 2016. Daniel Craig’s Bond wears an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra in the same film, so M’s choice is the quieter, older-minded watch of the two. The rest of the film’s pieces are on our Spectre page.

The details of the Longines Conquest Heritage rose gold watch

18kt rose gold, 35mm. The case is a size from an earlier era, and rose gold reads warmer and softer than yellow. It is dressy without being loud, and a gold watch this small slides easily under a cuff.

A silver sunray dial. The finish catches the light in a soft gradient rather than a glare. The hands are dauphine in shape, the indexes a mix of sticks and dots, and the hands and markers carry luminescent material, so it can still be read in dim light.

The date at 12. Longines took this from the original Conquest design. Putting the window at the top keeps the dial balanced and leaves the lower half clean.

A plexi crystal. The reference keeps the acrylic crystal of the watch it is based on, true to its origins. It scratches more readily than sapphire, so it asks for a little care.

The movement. Inside is a self-winding Longines L633 with a 38-hour power reserve, showing hours, minutes, seconds and date. Take it off for a night and it will still be running in the morning; after a weekend in a drawer it will have stopped and need setting.

Water resistance. It is rated to 30m, which means rain and hand-washing and not much more. This is a watch to take off before the pool.

Wearing it now

This is a watch for evenings, offices and long lunches. We would wear it with a navy or charcoal suit and a white or pale blue shirt, and with black shoes to match the strap. It also suits fine-gauge knitwear and a dark overcoat, where a sliver of gold at the cuff is all the display needed.

Size. At 35mm it is a deliberately small watch, in the proportions of an older dress watch. If you prefer a larger presence on the wrist, try it on first; if you like restraint, the size is the point.

Choosing the right one. Longines has made several rose gold Conquest Heritage models, and they are not the same watch. Check that the reference ends .78.4 and that it has the silver dial, date at 12 and black crocodile strap described here.

New or pre-owned? At the time of writing, October 2026, Montredo lists it new, with box, papers and manufacturer’s warranty. At least one US dealer lists the reference as no longer available, so it may be easier to find from specialist sellers than from the Longines catalogue. If you buy pre-owned, ask for papers and clear photographs of the dial and crystal. For more in this vein, see our watches.

Questions

Which Longines watch does M wear in Spectre?

M wears a Longines Conquest Heritage in rose gold, reference L1.611.8.78.4. It is hard to spot in the film, and the model was confirmed through the Christie’s Spectre auction.

Is the Longines Conquest Heritage L1.611.8.78.4 still available?

Yes, though not everywhere. At the time of writing, October 2026, Montredo lists it new at €2,990 excluding tax, while at least one US dealer marks the reference as no longer available. Pre-owned examples also appear on specialist sites.

How big is the Longines Conquest Heritage rose gold watch?

The case is 35mm across. That is small by current standards and suits slim wrists and anyone who prefers a traditional dress-watch size.

Does it have a sapphire crystal?

No. It has a plexi (acrylic) crystal, in keeping with the original Conquest it is based on. It scratches more easily than sapphire, so it is best treated gently.
