The world of James Bond, considered for a life well lived

Sulka White Shirt (GoldenEye)

Pierce Brosnan’s Bond wears white Sulka dress shirts with his Brioni suits in GoldenEye, including with the cream suit while driving the BMW Z3. Sulka shirts are found second-hand, so this page covers the look, a vintage search and current white-shirt alternatives.

A white Sulka shirt is the plainest, and most considered, part of the way Pierce Brosnan’s Bond dresses in GoldenEye. Brosnan wears Sulka shirts with his Brioni suits, and the white poplin is the one that does the least and does it best: a clean collar, a clean cuff and nothing to argue with. Sulka is no longer the house it was, so this is a style page, with a vintage search and current alternatives.

In the film

Bond wears the white Sulka shirt with the cream Brioni suit while driving the BMW Z3 in GoldenEye (1995). The style sources we read agree that the film’s dress shirts were made by Sulka, and list white poplin, ivory poplin, light blue end-on-end, French blue check and a pleated fly-front dress shirt among them. Brosnan wears both double and button cuffs. Our catalogue rates the match as medium confidence, so we describe it as the closest match we can identify.

The look of the shirt

White poplin. Poplin is a smooth, close-woven cotton that takes a crisp collar and holds a press, and it looks right under a cream or a navy suit. White is the shirt that makes a tie stand out and a suit look better.

Cuffs. Double cuffs for cufflinks, button cuffs for a plainer day. Bond wears both across the film, and a man with one pair of cufflinks should own a double-cuff white shirt.

A house of silk and shirts. Sulka was known for custom shirts and for silk ties, scarves and robes, with shops in New York, London and Paris. One forum account says the house no longer exists, although some of its merchandise turns up second-hand, and a newer Sulka label is selling silk-twill goods today. We cannot confirm that the current label is the same business.

Wearing it now

With a cream or light suit, as in the film, wear it with a soft tie and loafers or suede shoes. With a navy suit, add a dark tie and black shoes. In both cases, the collar is the thing to get right: it should sit cleanly under the tie and not collapse.

Finding one. The buy link is an eBay search for vintage Sulka shirts. Measure the neck, sleeve length and chest before you buy, since vintage sizing varies. At the time of writing, October 2026, eBay lists only a handful of Sulka shirts, in a limited range of sizes.

Buying new. For a current white dress shirt in the same spirit, see the two options below. They are alternatives, not the film shirt.

Questions

Who made the shirts in GoldenEye?

Sulka. The style sources we read say all of Brosnan’s dress shirts in GoldenEye were made by Sulka. See the film page for more.

Can you still buy a Sulka shirt?

Vintage examples turn up second-hand. We could not confirm a current Sulka shirt matching the film.

What suit goes with it?

In the film, a cream Brioni suit. A navy or grey suit works equally well. More from Pierce Brosnan and our clothing section.
